Jamal joins the team

Far from letting previous life experiences push him onto the back foot, Jamal is very much on the front foot and proving himself a valuable and valued member of our team, says DMS Co-Founder and Managing Partner Ash Newman.

Hi, my name is Jamal. I’m proud to join Diversity Media Sales and be given a chance to build a better life. Being surrounded by people who believe in me and have a different experience of life is making all the difference. 

Before I started I was in a hard place physically and mentally. I’ve grown up around drugs and violence, had good friends end up in jail and some die young. It led me to experience a lot of mental health challenges and I’d given up on life being any different than what I saw around me. As well as health problems, I was facing homelessness and financial difficulties. Without qualifications, I found it really difficult to build any sort of security in my life.

Being invited to join Diversity Media Sales as a trainee Business Executive has been amazing! My mental and physical health are getting better every day. I now have a much more healthy mindset. Being paid regularly means my finances are stable and I can start planning for things in the future. I’m learning new skills every day and am starting to have more confidence and a sense of self-belief that I struggled with in the past. The team has made me feel really welcome and are helping me with everything along the way. I feel now like I have a totally different future ahead of me and will always be grateful for this opportunity.
